Who is this guy?

My name is Zachary Zadell.

I am a freelance web developer based out of Portland, Oregon.

I specialize in Wordpress Consulting and Theme Development. I am primarily a programmer but can do everything from custom web development and site/theme design to setting up and maintaining a personal blog for you.

The majority of my freelance work has been with a Eugene based company called Concentric Sky. For them I have done a variety of projects using Django, Wordpress and Joomla.

In addition to having a strong web development background I also have quite a bit of experience with project and developer management. This makes me one of those rare individuals who are comfortable working on all aspects of a web development project. Not only am I an awesome developer but I am also pretty good at interfacing and seeing the perspective all kinds of different people throughout an organization or business.

I began 2010 with a move to Portland, Oregon after living in Eugene for 5 years. I have a degree in Computer Science and in the past I have worked professionally as a project manager, game developer, systems engineer and fruit picker in a rain-forest. I am of mixed ethnicity – my mother is Spanish, Chinese, Filipino and my father is Yugoslavian, German and Irish. If you saw me on the street I would probably confuse you. Don’t feel bad it happens to everybody I meet. Including friends I have known all my life.

What is this site about?

I see this as a place where I can talk about the places I have been, the lessons I have learned, the projects I am developing, and post pictures. Lots of pictures.

I am a photography nut. Taking pictures, lusting after gear, and learning new techniques are passions of mine. I also use photography as an excuse to go on hikes to crazy locations for the purpose of capturing unique perspectives that hopefully others can appreciate.

When not working, taking pictures or hiking you will probably find me playing tennis. I have been serious about tennis since 2002 when I decided tennis would be more than just casual exercise for me and instead I would devote time to mastering it. This involves not only playing it, but studying and breaking down the technique and styles of professionals into principles that I can apply to not only my own game, but to that of others as well. This makes me incredibly knowledgeable about the game, but also completely boring to anyone who doesn’t care about it. Consider yourself warned.

What are my goals?

Right now I am working full-time as a freelancing developer. The main purpose is not to become rich (though that would be nice) but to establish a lifestyle that allows me to work or play from anywhere in the world. Since college I have taken very few vacations and seen very little of the world, so I work to change that.

I also plan to take both my photography and tennis to a level that allows me to make a living on either.
